FUN STUFF TO READ, LEARN, & DO
“Becoming more mindful about clothing means looking at every fiber, at every seed and every dye and seeing how to make it better.
We don’t want sustainability to be our edge, we want it to be universal.”

FUN STUFF TO READ:
HOW TO CHANGE EVERYTHING
The young human’s guide to protecting the planet and each other
by Naomi Klein with Rebecca Stefoff
Ages 10 and up
FUN STUFF TO LEARN:
What is fast fashion, and why is it a problem?
- It’s cheap, trendy clothing
- Fabrics are made from synthetic plastic-based material derived from fossil fuels
- 85% of discarded clothing in the USA ends up in landfills (where it doesn’t decay) or is incinerated
- Fast fashion fabrics shed microplastics in the laundry cycle
ECO-FRIENDLY ALTERNATIVES: Tencel, Modal, Linen, Organic Cotton, Hemp, Bamboo.
FUN STUFF TO DO:
Look at the tags on all your clothes to see what they’re made of!
When clothes made from polyester, spandex, etc., are washed, they shed teeny tiny fabric particles down the drain.
Microplastics make their way into our water system through the laundry cycle.
To do: Next time you shop, commit to ONLY purchasing eco-friendly fabrics. Interested in clothing companies that don’t hurt the Earth? I’ve got a few favorites. Let me know.
