FUN STUFF TO READ:

The True Gift
by Patricia MacLachlan

My all-time favorite holiday story of two kids visiting their grandparents’ farm over Christmas.

I’m already crying just thinking about it.

By purchasing this used/ previously owned, you’re doing it the eco-friendly way.

FUN STUFF TO LEARN:

Have you done the scrunch test with your wrapping paper?

If you’re wrapping paper scrunches into a ball and stays that way, it’s recyclable. Yeah!
If it doesn’t keep its shape, then that paper must go into the trash.

Any gift wrap with these items can NOT be recycled:

  • glitter
  • sparkles
  • sticky gift labels
  • ribbons/bows still attached
  • plastic/lamination/artificial texture
  • loads of extra tape
  • tissue paper (too thin)
  • foil
  • sequins

Save your bows/ ribbon if possible and re-use next year. My favorite 100% recyclable wrapping paper and bows are from Wrappily. Two-sided prints. Super cute!

Plastic-Free Holiday Gift Guide

Eco-friendly ideas:

    1. Give an old item a new life. Think vintage. Shop Ebay/Etsy, thrift shop. Thrifty gifties!
    2. Buy books from a local indy bookstore (hint hint).
    3. Gift a subscription or certificate to a zero-waste service or refill shop like DIY candles at Siblings.co.
    4. Choose plastic-free gifts that prevent waste like metal, glass, bamboo, stainless steel or silicone like Gir.com.
    5. Donate to a charity like Heifer International.
    6. Give an awesome experience.
    7. Buy gift cards that are paper or electronic.
    8. Support a local farm and feed a loved one like a CSA membership.
    9. Regift something you already own but never use.
    10. Make it yourself! I have an excellent hot fudge sauce recipe if you’re interested.
