Former cranberry bogs are becoming climate change heroes!
In Massachusetts, the one-time cranberry capital of the world, former bogs are transforming into swamps and wetlands.
Wetlands are effective at:
-
- storing carbon
- filtering overabundant nutrients like nitrogen out of the water
- providing good fish habitats
- serving as buffers to shield communities from flooding and sea level rise
FUN STUFF TO DO:
Is wrapping paper recyclable? Here’s how to tell:
Give it the scrunch test. Squeeze it into a ball. If it keeps its shape and doesn’t have any “extras” (see list below), you can recycle it.
Wrapping paper that has these “extras” CANNOT be recycled:
-
- sparkles
- glitter
- sequins
- foil
- artificial texture
- loads of leftover tape
- ribbons/bows still attached
- sticky gift labels
- plastic or lamination
