FUN STUFF TO LEARN:

Did you know that cow burps and gas are harmful to the environment?

A single cow releases between 200-400 pounds of methane gas through burps and farts each year. These levels are 20 times more powerful than carbon dioxide gas.

Also and totally unrelated: November 15th is
America Recycles Day which recognizes the importance and impact of recycling.

FUN STUFF TO DO:

Avoid black plastic takeout containers for your health!

  1. These containers carry heavy metals and carcinogens!
  2. Don’t heat these in the microwave (even though the lid says it’s safe). Harmful chemicals are released into your food. (Same is true for styrofoam!)
  3. These containers are NOT recyclable so stop putting them in your bin (machines can’t detect the dark colors).
  4. Toss them into the trash. They will be incinerated or buried in the landfill. Or purchase a TerraCycle box and send your plastic to them. They will take care of it.
  5. Researchers found the highest levels of toxic chemicals in sushi trays and kitchen utensils.
  6. Tell your favorite restaurant that you love their food but don’t want it in black plastic. Request they offer eco-friendly alternatives. Ask every time you go because persistence pays off!
